Belonging in Denmark Co-creating a fællesskab of belonging
Weaving a Blanket of Belonging
One-day event | 2025
Weaving a Blanket of Belonging was a full-day facilitated event designed to explore how Danes and internationals can co-create a more inclusive and connected society in Denmark. Framed around the metaphor of weaving diverse threads into a collective “blanket of belonging,” the program combined storytelling, panel discussions, and participatory workshops rooted in the “Design for Belonging” framework.
The day opened with a strong focus on hospitality, inviting each participant to act as a host in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Expert panels highlighted personal stories, media perspectives, and psychological insights into what it means to feel part of a community. The workshops equipped attendees with practical tools to identify key “moments” and “levers” for designing belonging in both personal and institutional settings.
By bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders—from grassroots storytellers and researchers to public institutions and international residents—the event fostered shared reflection and collective imagination around how we might build bridges between Denmark’s strong tradition of community and the lived realities of newcomers.
