Celebrating Culture Through Danish Cuisine
Inspired by the beloved Danish tradition of smørrebrød, this interactive food station invites participants to create their own personalized, fusion-style open-faced sandwich – merging classic Danish elements with international flavors that reflect their background.
Each participant is invited to bring one or more ingredients that represent their culture, roots, or favorite flavors. This could be a topping, protein, sauce, or garnish – not a full dish. All contributions will be laid out buffet style, and participants can mix, match, and build their own “fusion bite”.
Funky Food Festival is a unique event that invites 25 international youth living in Denmark to co-create and enjoy a Danish community meal—with a twist. Participants will prepare traditional dishes like smørrebrød and frikadeller blended with spices, ingredients, or preparation methods from their own cultures. The evening is designed to spark dialogue and connection, from hands-on cooking and group seating to storytelling that celebrates each individual’s heritage. With a short talk introducing the Danish meal and an open floor for participants to share anecdotes about their favorite food traditions, the dinner becomes a platform for cultural expression and new friendships. Through shared tasks like cooking and cleaning, the event organically encourages teamwork and deeper engagement.
Sustainary hosts the event to support young internationals in building community while embracing their diverse backgrounds.
