Funky Food Festival
Celebrating Culture Through Danish Cuisine
Funky Food Festival is an initiative by Sustainary that aims to strengthen connections between Danish and international youth through food and culture. The project brings together 40 participants for a communal dinner where traditional Danish dishes are given a cultural twist inspired by the participants themselves. The event is free and open to everyone, with registration available online and shared through social media and partner networks.
The festival begins with participants cooking together, creating space for conversations, collaboration, and cultural exchange. During the dinner, a Danish participant introduces the traditional dish, followed by others who share how they added their own cultural influences and personal stories. After the meal, participants are rearranged into new groups for a collective cleanup, which serves as an informal team-building activity.
The goal of the project is to create meaningful encounters across cultures and help international youth feel more at home in Denmark. Many newcomers face challenges with integration and social connection, and the festival offers a welcoming space where new friendships can grow naturally.
The project is planned throughout September and October and culminates in the festival on October 24. Sustainary seeks funding to cover food, drinks, decorations, venue rental, cleaning, marketing, and materials for volunteers. With support from the Hurtigpuljen Fund, the Funky Food Festival can foster inclusion, community, and cultural understanding among young people in Denmark.
