COPenhagen Youth Simulation
Young people are among the most powerful voices in the fight against climate change. Their strong sense of intergenerational justice and future-oriented perspective make them uniquely motivated to push for ambitious climate action. Yet too often, youth remain on the margins of decision-making, consulted but not empowered, acknowledged but not given real influence.
Project name: COPenhagen Youth Simulation
Purpose:
Young people are among the most powerful voices in the fight against climate change. Their strong sense of intergenerational justice and future-oriented perspective make them uniquely motivated to advocate for ambitious climate action. However, youth are often consulted without being truly empowered or given meaningful influence in decision-making processes.
Recent data from UNICEF highlights this participation gap:
47.7% of young people feel they lack opportunities to share their views on climate policies.
19.3% are unaware of existing avenues to participate at all.
These figures underline the urgent need for inclusive, practical, and impactful platforms that enable youth to engage directly in climate governance.
Project Description:
To address this challenge, Sustainary has partnered with People of 2050 and Actory to launch the COPenhagen Youth Simulation — a student-led, immersive educational experience that mirrors the processes of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP).
Through this initiative, students:
Gain first-hand knowledge of how international climate negotiations operate.
Develop negotiation, collaboration, and policy-making skills.
Participate in a safe and empowering environment where youth voices are actively valued.
Build bridges between young people and formal climate decision-making structures.
By simulating major global climate forums in Denmark — a country known for its climate leadership — participants are equipped with the confidence and competence to engage in real-world climate discussions.
