Funky Food Festival

The Funky Food Festival invites all people to a communal cooking and dining experience where unique cultures come together through Danish cuisine with a global twist. The event is free and open to all, and we aim for a mix of Danish and international participants. Sign-up is via an online form shared on social media – everyone is welcome, regardless of their network.

Inspired by the beloved Danish tradition of smørrebrød, this interactive food station invites participants to create their own personalized, fusion-style open-faced sandwich – merging classic Danish elements with international flavors that reflect their background.

Each participant is invited to bring one or more ingredients that represent their culture, roots, or favorite flavors. This could be a topping, protein, sauce, or garnish – not a full dish. All contributions will be laid out buffet style, and participants can mix, match, and build their own “fusion bite”.

After preparing the meal, a Danish participant will give a short presentation on the traditional dish, followed by others sharing how they contributed culturally and telling a short anecdote about their favorite tradition. During dinner, a seating plan ensures that everyone meets someone new. At the end, everyone helps clean up in new groups – a team-building activity that fosters stronger cross-cultural connections.
