The Road to Experience

How to get experience without having experience

Vejen til Erfaring

One-day workshop | 2025

Many students face a significant challenge when applying for study-related jobs: a lack of prior experience. This lack of experience becomes a barrier to gaining it—creating a frustrating cycle that is difficult to break. Data from Akademikerne and STAR.dk shows that 82% of students who work during the final two years of their studies find employment within nine months of graduation, compared to just 49% of those without relevant experience. This underlines how crucial early professional exposure is to future success on the job market.

Vejen til Erfaring was created to help students break this cycle—not by focusing on what they lack, but by highlighting and building on what they already have. Through a full-day event combining dialogue, inspiration, and hands-on training, students were introduced to the concept of transferable competencies and empowered to recognize the value of their academic, personal, and extracurricular experiences.

The day included personal storytelling, a moderated panel discussion with professionals who have successfully leveraged transferable skills, and a practical workshop on CV and application writing. Participants learned to map out their own strengths using a tailored competency model, translate them into compelling job applications, and support one another through peer feedback and group discussions.

The project aimed not just to prepare students for the job market, but to shift their mindset—from focusing on deficits to recognizing their potential. The event concluded with reflection and structured evaluation to ensure ongoing learning and future improvement of the format.
